In the lead-up to his sophomore album, Lil Tjay dropped a regal new clip which proves he’s Destined 2 Win.

At just 19 years old, New York upstart Lil Tjay seems poised to usher in a new generation of rap. Now known for his blaring bars and expansive sound, the Bronx-hailing artist first emerged two years ago on the hip-hop treasure trove of SoundCloud, and has since enjoyed mainstream success with the 2019 release of his breakout album. A chart-topping and self-assured debut, True 2 Myself was merely a precursor; a sonic announcement of Lil Tjay’s arrival – and expectant takeover- of the rap game.

A string of scene-stealing features and a successful mixtape later, Lil Tjay is probably more recently known for the 6lack-assisted R&Banger ‘Calling My Phone’ which did the rounds on TikTok and serves as the first single for his upcoming LP, Destined 2 Win. If that track- which sees Tjay contend with his heavy-hitting contemporary with soulful ease- is anything to go by, then his sophomore drop is, to put it in Tjay’s own words, destined to win.

Just last week, fans were offered an equally-ambitious second single, ‘Headshot,’ which this time enlists bars from fellow newcomers Polo G and Fivio Foreign. On it, the wordsmiths trade verses on top of a trappy but melodic beat effortlessly. The accompanying music video is fit for rap royalty; following the palace-bound trio as they smoke in golden thrones and walk their pet giraffes. If all this promise seems too unbelievable, check out the new ‘Headshot’ video below, and catch Lil Tjay defying the sophomore slump with Destined 2 Win, out April 2.
