Kendrick Lamar was seven years old when he first saw Dr. Dre on the set of ‘California Love,’ which was being filmed near his childhood home.

Since then, the rapper has gone to to collaborate officially with the production legend on numerous occasions, and while we have tracks like ‘The Recipe’ still spinning, a new mixtape by DJ Critical Hype takes things a couple of steps further. Reaching deep into the catalogues of both Compton heroes, The DAMN. Chronic blends segments of Lamar’s vocals with Dre’s world-class beats, and the results are pretty grand.

“Kendrick has so many flows, voices, and styles, plus Dre beats are really incredible, so I figured it would be dope,” Critical Hype says. “I was determined to make it work, but the truth is it wasn’t easy. A lot of the tempos actually didn’t mix well. It was a lot more work trying to find good mixes. I had to dig deep and make a capellas for about 60 to 70 Kendrick songs and try and find stuff I was happy with.”

With over 20 mash-ups, it’s an extensive offering, and we’d suggest first listening to ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’ fused with ‘Forgot About Dre’ – that’s a particularly nice time. You isten to The DAMN. Chronic below, and stay tuned to see if Kendrick Lamar will appear at the top of that Splendour in the Grass 2018 lineup. We’re hoping that the rumours are true:
