It’s been a long time coming.

For years, Daniel Johns & Luke Steele have been teasing fans with a collaborative project. As members of Silverchair & Empire of the Sun, the two have dominated their respective sonic fields, and nobody really knew what to expect when these two eccentric individuals teamed up. In an interview last year, Steele said the music “just sounds like the future,” while in 2015, Johns said the longtime project has been discussed for almost two decades.

Now, we have our first taste of the joint project, which is called Dreams. In a video uploaded to Facebook with a #noonedefeatsus hashtag, we get a 48 second taste of the pair’s tune which blends dance and indie flavour in uptempo fashion. It’s also indicative of Johns’ broadening musical horizons, which has seen him collaborate with the likes of Slumberjack and What So Not in recent times.

The new song coincides with Dreams’ announcement on the lineup for Coachella 2018 alongside Beyonce, The Weeknd, Eminem and more. So, has it been worth the wait? Listen below, and see two Australian heroes in action at Coachella in a few months time:
