Ever wanted to get inside the head of Tame Impala AKA Kevin Parker? Curious as to how he consistently creates mind-bending records that never fail to transport you to another realm? Us too, and it looks like we’re getting all the answers and more. Joining legendary producer and beard enthusiast Rick Rubin on the Broken Record Podcast, Parker talked everything from early influences to his creative process and so much more.
The hour-long podcast podcast saw Parker play demos from voice memos and look back on the early days of this career, remiscing about how he would lie to record labels “Tame Impala was always kind of perceived as a band, and I was kind of cool with that because it sounded like a band with a bunch of guys jamming. It was eating away at me that it wasn’t the truth, and also I wanted people to know that it was more of a solo recording project because I realized that solo artists get away with completely changing their sound more than bands do.”
Kanye/ Parker Stans are gonna be delighted as well, as the pair also spend time talking about Rubin’s involvement in Kanye West’s minimal masterpiece Yeezus, as well as his involvement in Californication.
It’s a sick listen, and a really cool deep dive into one of Australia’s greatest musical exports. Check it below.
