It’s looking like live music in some of our favourite venues might be back sooner than we thought.

Remember attending gigs at places like the Metro, the Enmore Theatre, The Hordern and countless other larger venues? Well it’s looking like those venues will be back up and running soon, albeit at 50% capacity, which is a massive win for musicians, venue staff, roadies, sound techs, and even music journalists.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that from October 1st venues will be able to host up to 1000 people as long as all attendees are seated. It’s a huge win for the NSW music industry and comes with the news that restrictions on weddings, and children’s sporting events will also be loosened. Glady Berejyklian also announced that she would like a stripped-back version of the New Years fireworks too, which is further evidence that we’re finally on the road back towards normalcy.

“For workers across the full spectrum of the performing arts – from box office staff to ushers, from technicians and roadies to the artists – this change means more jobs,” NSW Arts Minister Don Harwin said of the relaxing of the rules.
