Just went you thought you had a beat on the enigmatic artist that is Lola Scott, she up and flips the script. It’s resulted in her becoming an artist that’s impossible to pin down, and to be honest, we’d have it no other way. Case in point, her latest single ‘Last One Standing’, which is out today.
The new offering utilises an emotive acoustic guitar and some heartfelt, almost whisper-like vocals from Lola. The soundscape gradually evolves however as we’re introduced to layered synths, punchy electric guitars, and echoed drums. The build-up to the bridge is a total sonic journey, where Lola’s vocals, distorted and existential, seamlessly blend into a chaotic soundscape, perfectly capturing the essence of losing control and one’s identity after facing an uphill battle.

Speaking on the cathartic nature behind the song, Lola explains, “I wrote ‘Last One Standing’ at a time when I was questioning who I was, what I valued and what made me happy” while adding, “I was scraping the bottom of the barrel to find some sort of meaning/ hope in the world around me and questioning what my priorities should be after being the Last One Standing in the relationship.”
It’s one of Lola’s most intimate singles yet, and gives us yet another side of her ever-growing artistry. ‘Last One Standing’ is out now. You can buy/stream it here.
