There’s a rumour circulating around Newcastle that Loods was struck by lightning whilst skinny-dipping in the fountain at Civic Park after a night on the decks at the CBD. It’s said that on that night the USB in his pocket was infused into his bloodstream, giving him a symbiotic relationship with saucey house beats and disco sizzlers.

Whether that’s “true” or not (and it definitely is), there’s no denying that the Novocastrian beatsmith’s hot streak over the past few years has been nothing short of exceptional. Don’t just take our word for it though, take Diplo’s. The US producer has just released Loods’ latest ‘Freedom’ ft. KLP on his label Higher Ground, which is about the biggest tick of approval you can get in this world.

The tune feels like it was made for that late-set energy injection. Just when you think you have nothing left in the tank, on comes ‘Freedom’ and all of a sudden, you’re waving your arms in the air with your shirt off in a state of deep euphoria:
