Big Shaq Of ‘Man’s Not Hot’ Fame Is Touring Australia Next Month

Update: Big Shaq has officially been announced on the lineup for Origin NYE in Perth.

In 2017, becoming a meme means that you can make it as a full-time musician, and maybe even get an Australian tour in the process.

Earlier this year, British comedian Michael Dapaah brought his Big Shaq character to Fire In The Booth, dropping a murky freestyle named ‘Man’s Not Hot’ that was just as catchy as it was absurd. Since then, the track has exploded online, getting widespread club play, packed-out gigs and yes, even a feud between Big Shaq and OG Shaq, as in basketball player (and sometimes rapper) Shaquille O’Neal.

Now, it seems like the hype will be bringing Big Shaq to Australia, as early as next month. Perth festival Origin NYE – who added 6lack to their stacked lineup just yesterday – have posted a not-so-subtle clue on their Facebook page, implying that Big Shaq will be arriving down under to play the event on December 31 at Claremont Showgrounds.

This isn’t the first time that a viral single has brought one-hit-wonders to our shores: In 2013, Korean ‘Gangnam Style’ star PSY visited Australia as part of Future Music Festival, and the surprising resurgence of Darude – fuelled by Peking Duk – saw him play the same festival in 2015.

Stay tuned for an official announcement from Origin NYE, but it seems like it’s safe to say that Big Shaq will be here very soon.
