It’s been over two decades since Mariah Carey dropped her mega Chrissy banger ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You,’ and it continues to dominate the mainstream and popular culture. It seems with 2020 being a completely different Christmas the likes of which we’ve never seen, the tune was still the go-to over the holiday period, having its biggest year yet across the globe and consequently setting a new record.
We’re not kidding. The tune literally broke the all-time record for the biggest, single-day stream in Spotify history, getting spun an insane 17.223 million times on Chrissy Eve, beating out Ariana Grande’s ‘7 Rings’ to be the new record-holder.
Taking to Twitter to celebrate the news, Carey wrote ‘WOW. I know people think I’m making ‘coin’ (lil’ secret: artists make very little from streams) but the real reason I’m sitting here in astonishment & gratitude is seeing the joy this little song I wrote brings to people.” She added, “THANK YOU & MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!’

The new record comes just over a week after the banger topped the Billboard singles chart for the second time since it was released. It’s clearly a banger that resonates with the world, and is pretty bloody timeless for the Chrissy period. Have a sneaky listen below to be reminded of its greatness.
