In what’s a devastating blow to Melbourne’s dance scene, popular open-air club ATET caught fire early this morning. Moored in Docklands, the city’s famous barge was spotted burning up at around 4:30am this morning, with Fire Rescue Victoria immediately being called to the scene and bringing it under control in 15 minutes.
Although it was only opened mere months ago, the barge had quickly become a favourite amongst dance lovers across the city for its optimal location and quality line-ups, with numerous international and local artists such as Nikki Nair, Merve, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Bella Claxton and more all having graced its decks so far.
However, the barge has also drawn plenty of criticism, most notably copping over 140 noice complaints since it first opened its doors in late October. It’s perhaps why the blaze has been “deemed suspicious” by authorities, specifically as it’s unclear how the fire even started.

Speaking on the inferno, ATET wrote online, “Our whole team has put their heart and soul into this venture so this has hit us hard. Thank you everyone for the beautiful messages of support, luckily no one was on board when the fire occurred so we are beyond relieved that our lovely staff are safe.
“It will take us some time to regroup but the good news is the fire and damage was localised and it’s nothing that can’t be fixed.”
Definitely a big blow to Melbourne’s’ nightlife. Check out the club’s full statement below.
