Jack Ladder, Lo Carmen and Blake Scott are all enlisting The Melodrones as supports this month, so why aren’t you listening to them?

There are probably really two answers to that question: a) you haven’t heard them yet, or b) you’re stooopid… Now, we both know the latter isn’t true, so it’s high time you familiarise yourself with the addictive blend of swooning melodies, lovestruck lyricism and washed-out guitars that they’ve been serving up for a couple of years now.

Start off with ‘R.I.P. Hollywood’, frontman Rik Saunders’ fuzzy examination of celebrity and fame, then dig into the ‘Nobody Said / Ground Control’ split, which sees Saunders and singer/bass player Mel(issah Mirage) link up for some back-and-forth vocal deliciousness. Round off your exposure with the bouncy ‘Sonny’ and you’ll be wanting to get “The Melodrones” tattooed across your neck… or at least you’ll be having a boogie in your lounge room.

Now that you’re converted, you’ll be wanting to see them live, right? They’re playing with Lo Carmen at the Great Club in Marrickville on Thursday (event here) for the launch of her book Lovers Dreamers Fighters, Jack Ladder at Riverside in Parramatta on July 09 (tix here) to support his album Hijack!, and Blake Scott at the Factory Floor on July 22nd (tix here) in support if his Niscitam LP. Do not sleep on these shows, and check out what these stellar Australian artists had to say about The Melodrones below when we asked them for a quote in a completely natural and unforced way:

“Every single person has a great song in them. Most bands have a great record in them. These three artists have all consistently made back to back albums full of amazing tracks,” Saunders says of the shows. “It’s surreal to know you are supporting three of the best songwriters in the country within one month. We’re not nervous performers generally speaking but when you know you are sharing the stage with their level of greatness it really makes you look closely at your own art.”

“Dense and immersive songwriting, in wonderful sunglasses.” – Blake Scott

“I like their trashy, dramatic, melodic sounds.” – Lo Carmen

“If I was a music industry guy I’d get people excited by saying it’s like a doo wop pixies.” – Jack Ladder.

If you don’t believe these fine artists, maybe you are stooopid x
