The alt-pop muso has also announced his new album Are You Haunted?

The new tune, titled ‘Proof,’ sees Methyl Ethel (real name Jake Webb) embark into new territory, being the first track to feature an additional singer in the history of the Methyl Ethel discography. In this instance, he’s picked a worthy artist, recruiting fellow Western Australia muso Stella Donnelly for a duet about “truth and movies” atop funk-infused synths. Vocally the two artists are on par with each other throughout the four minute runtime, utilising their complimentary vocal tones for a synchronistic ballad.

The video for the new single mirrors its ambient nature, utilising a soothing black and white colour grade as the two musos take turns destroying huge artworks while singing to each other and the viewer. It’s definitely got a surrealist element to it, and strikes a good contrast with the glittery sonics.

“One person’s truth is another person’s gossip. It’s a surreal little painting of those bits and pieces. Stella is one of the most truth-telling artists I’ve ever heard. It made a perfect match” Methyl Ethel explains of the new single, with Donnelly adding “Working on ‘Proof’ with Jake felt like being invited to the set of your favourite movie, such an insightful and wonderful experience.”

Along with the new single comes news of Methyl Ethyl’s fourth album, with the muso announcing the new record Are You Haunted? along with a February 18th release date. And of course, the album is gonna be put to the test on the live circuit, with Methyl Ethel slated to tour the country throughout April and make appearances at Byron Bay’s Splendour in the Grass, Perth Festival and Bambra’s Meadow Music Festival set.
