Is Milku Australia’s answer to Jackass? Nah… Probably not. But he certainly does seem to like a high-sped shopping trolley ride and a little bit of DIY, so we can see how someone might come to that conclusion.

Last time we caught up with Sydney singer-songwriter and one-time Pikachu obsessor, Milku, he was in our studio answering our rapid fire questions and drawing himself (see below). Now he’s returned with a double-whammy of good news; firstly, he’s announced that his forthcoming EP, Be Honest will be hitting our earholes on Friday November 29th (pre-order here), plus he’s shared a brand new single ‘Emergency Contact’.

Unsurprisingly to anyone that’s listened to Milku before, the tune is a dreamy melodic trip that you’ll put on while you’re driving or commuting and, without realising, hit repeat on… ahhh… repeatedly(?). Lyrically the track walks that bittersweet line between the jubilance of love and the many pitfalls that come with it. As Milku explains, there’s a sweet, sweet undercurrent of irony.

“This song is about finally going for something real with the person you care about. The verses are really my love/hate relationship with casual dating, with these images of blowing out your birthday candles alone, or bleeding out while your emergency contact misses the hospital’s call, played over this coy jazz piano line that’s probably right on the edge of cheesiness. But the chorus I wrote all in one take, one feverish moment of vulnerability, and that’s where it’s all laid bare, the synths come in and the lights turn on. Keep your jokes; I’ve got a vision for what we can be, if we get over ourselves and try to believe. I’m smaller than I seem, but I know who I can be when I’m with you.”

Once again, Milku’s boundless creativity flows into the visuals for the clip which see him riding around in a trolley and spilling his guts (literally). Directed by Thom Davies, it’s a captivating and, at times, literal representation of the tune. No Milkus were harmed in the making of it FYI.
