As RNB Fridays’ reportedly underwhelming Australian festival run drags on, we’re very pleased to share some actually good r&b news on a Friday.

Having spent years in and around Australia’s buzzing hip-hop, r&b and soul scene, including working and performing with local legends Adrian Eagle, Genesis Owusu and Kwame, Ms. Thandi has today served up her solo debut, ‘On The Table’. Inspired by Nina Simone lyrics, “You’ve got to learn to leave the table when love’s no longer being served,” the song is an honest and playful account of knowing when to call it quits.

On the track, Ms. Thandi said it’s, “about learning to recognise when there’s no longer any love left in a relationship – whether that’s platonic or romantic, it’s about recognising your worth and walking away. It’s not a song about heartbreak though… I think it’s natural for things to come to an end so I wanted to keep it cheeky and playful.” Whether singing or rapping, Ms. Thandi’s delivery cuts through intricate electronic instrumentation, catching the ear sweetly as she invites you briefly into her world.

With an EP in the works for 2020, ‘On The Table’, offers a first taste of what’s to come from Ms. Thandi. Catch her live in support of BoomChild at Boogie Mountain on Friday, 29 November (get your tickets here), and give her debut single a spin below:
