Following a highly-publicised beef that saw them trade shots over Instagram and triple j, What So Not and California singer Oliver Tree have finally put aside their differences to release the long-awaited ‘Mr. Regular’ ft. Killer Mike, and contrary to the name, there’s nothing regular about this collab.
The new single fuses What So Not’s signature trap inclinations with Tree’s trademark lchaos, with the Northern Beaches producer providing a melancholic sonic backing for the ‘Life Goes On’ singer to let loose on, alternating between rhythmic and melodic delivery in what’s one of his most high-octane vocal performances yet. The tune manages to find moments of gentle balladry as well, particularly on the piano-driven hook as Tree sings “They told me I was regular”.
Run The Jewels rapper Killer Mike gets his moment to shine as well, serving up a self-assured flow peppered with rhythmic onslaughts and ad-libs that harken back to golden-age Run The Jewels while still finding a new-age balance.
It’s no doubt an addictive track, and has struck a fervent chord with the masses since it was leaked online some time ago. To celebrate it’s arrival, What So Not and Tree himself opted to go outside of the box to promote it, engaging in a pretend beef on social media that culminated in a fake confrontation on triple j yesterday arvo.

Speaking on the new track and bringing it to fruition, What So Not explains, “It’s one of the biggest songs I’ve ever been part of, tied up in red tape for too long. I know how much the fans and community want this one… ‘Mr Regular’ is about the difficulty that we face through our childhood and career progression as clueless superior figures try to control and shape our path”.
Definitely a solid collab that we’re glad is finally seeing the light of day. What So Not’s new single ‘Mr. Regular’ ft. Oliver Tree and Killer Mike is out now. You can buy/stream it here. You can also pre-order What So Not’s upcoming album Anomaly here.
