After over a year since their last record Lonely Diamond, the Byron-based six piece are back with a feel-good offering…

The new track, titled ‘Touch Back Down’, sees the the Ocean Alley boys return to the more playful and fiery parts of their sound, sun-drenched guitars and powerful vocals piercing through the sonic realm. But it’s got the poignancy to match, lead singer Baden Donegal singing about finding the bright side in every situation.

Visually, the boys match the meaning of the sonics, the high-octane visuals (directed by The Sauce) following the various members of the group as they go through all the highs and lows of everyday life (quite literally, each member flying through the air and plunged into the ocean depths throughout the four-minute runtime).

There are also some classic shots of the band mucking about in their four wheel drive, all while frontman Baden Donegal sings straight into the camera, serenading the viewer with the importance of turning a negative into a positive.

Speaking on the uplifting feel of the new single, Baden explains: “‘Touch Back Down’ gives a much happier vibe than any single from Lonely Diamond and we’re definitely carrying that upbeat energy across our writing at the moment,” with guitarist Mitch Galbraith adding “After the craziness of the past two years, we wanted to be less serious and write songs that will get people moving rather than thinking.”

“We felt that we could write music this time around that is less introspective and with a little more storytelling, so this is the first taste of the new direction that our fourth album will offer.”

Whether or not that fourth album will land before the band’s 2022 tour remains to be seen, but what we do know is that the shows will be finally going ahead early next year, with two additional shows being added in Queensland.

Definitely a welcome return for the six-piece. Be sure to buy/stream ‘Touch Back Down’ here and cop tickets to Ocean Alley’s 2022 tour here.
