Just as we’re starting to edge towards shorts and thongs weather, Peking Duk – who just got nominated for four ARIA Awards – have come through with an upbeat jam that’s sure to go down well at their upcoming Falls Festival dates. While Icona Pop add youthful vocals to the track – evoking memories of the pumping ‘I Love It’ from a few years back – this is also the first single to feature Peking Duk’s Adam Hyde on the microphone.
Blending chirpy synths with more gloomy lyrics, ‘Let You Down’ becomes a juxtaposition of sorts – loosely based on the plot of the film Candy from Heath Ledger’s perspective. “We honestly just felt like the happy melodies would be far more interesting with a sad story through the lyrics. Weirdly, the story in Candy is far more relatable than it seems on first glance,” they said.
“Many people are actually in scenarios or relationships where they know they are bringing the other person down. This is the hard part; trying to tell them to leave so you don’t let them down.”
Listen to ‘Let You Down’ below, and if you caught Peking Duk at Splendour in the Grass, you’ll know that their Falls Festival set is gonna be colossal:
