How do you visually represent a song about oversleeping? With a tale of Cockatoo tragedy of course. Or, at least, that’s how Peter Bibby sees it in his new video for ‘Long Baby’

Always keeping us guessing, Perth rock/folk rebel Peter Bibby has just released the first official single from sophomore LP Grand Champion with an accompanying video that is a fiery story about love and loss, as expressed through an ill-fated fable about two cockatoos. Seriously, try and watch it without crying (from sadness or from laughing too hard).

‘Long Baby’ musically picks up where standalone singles ‘Medicine’ and ‘Work For Arseholes’ does – maintaining that heavier sound we didn’t hear from his debut LP, Butcher/Hairstylist/Beautician.“It is a high energy song about the problems that arose from her extensive slumber: hunger, impatience, anxiety – these are but a few of the afflictions I suffered before knuckling down and penning this tune,” Bibby says.

Clearly prepared to suffer for his art, Bibby donned the bird suit himself for the inventive and unique clip. “I had come up with the basic idea based on how certain birds are monogamous and mate for life and the sad and adorable fact that if one is hit by a car for example the mate will stay with it, hoping for it to miraculously wake up,” Bibby says. “The beaks were incredibly uncomfortable, especially after I damaged mine going full ham catching a worm, diving head first into a sand pile.” he adds.
