Punters in Canberra made history over the weekend for an interesting reason.

In an Australian first, they were the first to have voluntary pill testing at the ever popular Groovin the Moo. A trend that the STA-SAFE and law enforcement hope to continue.

With over 85 substances tested, the results have shown most of drugs contained a combination of ecstasy, ketamine, cocaine, along with several cutting ingredients such as sugar, paint and even toothpaste.

The real concern however is that two highly lethal chemicals were found in thin translucent capsules.  One of them being N-Ethylpentylone, which has been responsible for numerous cases of mass overdoses at similar festivals around the world.

While the weekend can be seen as success for drug safety, improvements can still be made. With only 128 goers voluntarily testing out of over 21,000, many punters noted that the STA-SAFE tent was hard to find and that they were still afraid of the bias police might have towards them if seen leaving the tent.

It is still yet to be announced if pill testing will be present at any of the other Groovin the Moo dates.
