It’s rare to hear a tune that packs the emotional punch and powerful imagery like the latest offering from Aurelia and Deutsch Duke, who demonstrate a songwriting symbiosis that feels so natural it blurs the line between the two artists. With a minimal beat, soaring vocals and atmospheric synths take centre stage, making the tune feel like a tale of love in a post-apocalyptic world.
Wanting to avoid focussing on the world’s problems, ‘Battleground II’ lyrically aims to be a source of light for listeners. “There was a lot of crazy things going on in the world at the time, there still are I guess, and we just felt really compelled to write about how it’s so common to be living in fight mode and how desperately we need to choose peace and kindness,” Aurelia says.
Upon setting the tone for the track, the rest came naturally. “I really try and let the essence of a song speak to me about how it needs to sound, and this track just spoke so loudly and clearly that the production for it just sort of feels like it made itself,” Deutsch Duke says.
