For those of you who like your indie-rock with a side of weirdness, Carl Renshaw has got you covered with banger ‘Sence.’

For many young musicians it can take a little while to find your feet. Forging your musical identity is usually a labourful process of trial and error as you work out how to best express yourself through the scope of the limited influences you’ve been able to absorb. At least that was what we thought before we heard 18-year-old Tasmanian Carl Renshaw and his latest single ‘Sence.’

The groovy track is a display of musical maturity that combines jangly guitars, smooth melodies and a few sprinkles of psychedelic sugar in there. Lyrically, the track focuses around the perils of obsession. “’Sence’ is about having a love for someone or something that you know is bad but at the same time being so infatuated that you have no sense to do anything about it and, at the end of the day, you don’t care if it’s bad,” Carl says.

It’s hard to imagine this song not leaving an impression on fans of psych, rock or pop with Carl using a perfect balance of ingredients and tastefully navigating genres with the level of craftsmanship that has attracted the attention of Triple J and earned him support slots with a range of big name Australian acts such as Wolfmother, Tash Sultana and Lime Cordiale.

Carl Renshaw will be hitting Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart later this month and we’re looking forward to heading along and seeing just how he makes it all happen – info here. Somehow, we have the feeling we won’t be let down.
