In no short supply of headbanging ridiculousness…

Melbourne/Naarm heavy-rock outfit The Crookeds are putting it all on the line in the lead up to their debut EP Dead Eye, proving to their contemporaries (and the Aussie music scene as a whole) that they’re here to stay, and have a whole lot to get off their chest.

The second single from the EP, ‘State of Panic’ (which we’re premiering today), sees the four-piece revel in their bravado and musicianship, taking the fight to the powers that be with an onslaught of raw mayhem. From blistering guitars to high octane vocals and mountains of groove, the Melbourne upstarts seem to be firing on all cylinders with the latest release, and it shows more than ever throughout the three-minute runtime.

Musically the heater goes through copious amounts of transformation, alternating between distorted valleys and overdrive mountains as they sed it into the night. A personal favourite it is the breakdown/build-up at around two minutes in, a lone guitar line signifying a return to intensity as singer Sonny James turns up the ‘Badass’ levels to infinite, and the result is beyond satisfying.

Speaking on the new track and its musical formation, drummer Oscar Linkson notes “‘State of Panic’ is the second single in the lead up to our debut EP ‘Dead Eye’ and is a real showcase of our musical diversity. The track centres around driving 7-string guitar lines, backed by almighty grooves, while stripped back verses give an air of sensuality, and the chorus/finale showcase our signature heavy rock energy.”

“With a hook that will stay with you forever, the song’s lyrics eloquently discuss the modern day ‘state of panic’ we find ourselves in. Mainstream media controls our minds as we get our daily ‘fix’ from our phones – always searching for more.”

Feeling a bit disenchanted with the world and are yearning for an escape from the rat race? The Crookeds will do all of the above and then some for you, going so far as blasting you into the cosmos with boundless sonics to aid you in your journey. Keep up with the band on Facebook and Instagram.
