Since its release in 2015, ‘Innerbloom’ has become one of RÜFÜS’ most favoured tracks, with its lingering vocals sparking sing-a-longs at festivals across the globe. While the serene single has been remixed in wobbly fashion by What So Not, its latest re-working shoots in the opposite direction, courtesy of Dustin Tebutt & Lisa Mitchell.
The joint cover arrives on the brink of the duo’s Distant Call tour, where they’ll be performing together across the country with a live band for a substantial 100 minute co-headline set. For a taste of what to expect, the ‘Innerbloom’ cover increases the intimacy with both vocalists singing the heartfelt lyrics, while the production has also been placed in slow-motion for a track that hits like a warm embrace in winter.
Listen to Dustin & Lisa’s cover below, and head along to the Distant Call tour when it kicks off in June. Grab your tickets right here:
Dustin says:
“I’ve wanted to do a cover of Innerbloom for a while now, it’s my favourite tune off RÜFÜS’ last record. When Lisa and I were talking about doing a cover together we had a bunch of more traditional singer songwriter songs on the list, but this one really stood out as a bit of a challenge and we thought we could do something special with it. I love how adding that second vocal kinda puts a new slant on the story too. We often use the word ‘songs’ when describing pop or folk, and tend to lean more to ‘tracks’ the closer we get to the electronic end of the spectrum, but for me ‘Innerbloom’ is the perfect sweet spot between both. The writing here is flawless and the journey in the original version is really spectacular. Hopefully we’ve done it some justice in this version!
Lisa says:
RÜFÜS’ song, Innerbloom, is hauntingly beautiful. I recorded my parts in Berlin, and sent them to Dustin. All the preparation of this tour has been done via email and phone – definitely the Distant Call tour! He’s done such a beautiful job of the production. Looking forward to performing this at our shows together in June!
