Where has Amber Rose been hiding?

Having seemingly appeared out of nowhere, Sydney songstress Amber Rose is today sharing her first single, ‘Don’t Hold Me Back’. And we have to say, an artist rarely drops a debut track that is capable of moving you quite like this one. With a shuffling beat, jangly guitar, and dreamy melodies she sets the scene for the perfect heartstrung ballad, firing that arrow right through our mushy hearts with pinpoint accuracy.

Lyrically, she reckons with a love that has lived and died, and we get the impression she’s coming to understand the pitfalls of rushing into a relationship with someone you don’t know as well as you think you do. But don’t confuse her circumstances with naivety, as she still clearly has no qualms telling it straight, demonstrated by lines like “I don’t want you to hold me back…” “It’s time to come to term with the facts…”

Rose gleams a positive message from the track; a new beginning rather than a bitter end. “It’s a very powerful and emotional song but to me it is not sad but liberating which is why it is more upbeat instead of slow and melancholy. It’s more about loving someone so much that you are able to set them free and still love them platonically,” she says.
