Talk about a strong start…

Ladies and gentlemen, sit down and strap yourself in for the debut track from Inner-West duo Thom Eagleton and Renee de la Motte AKA Salarymen. ‘Please’ is three minutes of jangly guitar-pop, crooning vocals, and bouncy basslines with a vintage wash and a splash of incurable romanticism. Recorded at their home studio, the track has an unpolished and authentic feel to it, with the pair belting out vocals in a way that you can really feel.

Like some of the finest 60s rock, you get the feeling that behind the doo-wopping and the major progressions there’s someone crying on the inside. The lyrics, which centre around the anxiety of love loss, juxtapose the upbeat spirit of the song masterfully, hitting that sweet spot between party tune and addictive ballad.

“This track is ultimately about the breakdown of relationships. When I first wrote this song, I was a touring musician watching a number of messy breakups unfold between bandmates and their partners whilst on the road,” Eagleton says of the track. “It was an intense and volatile place to be in, so I penned my feelings down and they became the foundations for this track. The song has evolved a lot since then and together we’ve been able to give it a new perspective and more clarity”.

Like what you’re hearing? The duo will be playing at Vic on the Park on Saturday 21st December. We’ll be there, and you oughta be too. Head here to follow them on Facebook for more news.
