Sydney outfit Mel Blue have the perfect track to get you in the mood for the weekend.

It’s time to get familiar with Sydney’s slickest new band, Mel Blue. Born out of a conglomerate of local acts, the indie-pop six piece’s debut track ‘South’ contains everything you want to hear on the dancefloor this weekend – including a huge drum roll that would make Phil Collins proud.

Sleek vocals ride above swirling synths and saucey beats, with the group showcasing their ability to find a groove and keep the energy up. Trust us you’ll be doing your best impressions of vocalist Oscar Sharah’s falsetto when you’re singing the chorus as you walk down the street on your way home today.

Lyrically the track centres around the struggles of doing ‘the distance thing’. “’South’ is about long distance relationships and how they seem to bring up the same conversations and arguments. Rather then allowing these conversations to consume the relationship, sometimes it’s best to just make the most of each other’s company while it lasts,” Oscar says.

The group enlisted UK funk powerhouse PB Underground to produce the track, which is only fair, seeing as they sampled PB’s song ‘Part-Time Lover’ on the tune. “We knew if we wanted to actually use the song we would have to try reach out to PB Underground. We finally got in touch with them and after a few emails we came to an agreement for using the sample. They were legends about it!” said drummer, Jacob Siles.
