Turning fiction into music was the driving concept BATTS latest single ‘Gun.’

Having had a massive last 12 months that has seen her tour nationally supporting Didirri, play her debut UK shows and sell out her own EP launch, you could forgive Melbourne singer-songwriter Tanya Batts, AKA BATTS, for wanting to take a little time off. Though, to be honest, we’re glad she hasn’t.

Today we have ‘Gun’ her first new music since her 2017 debut EP 62 Moons. The track is a slow and spacious ballad that with a strong sense of self reflection that paints vivid imagery of wide open areas, reminiscent of On The Beach-era Neil Young. Cunning use of guitars and drums allows for a dynamic and absorbent build up that will have you wondering how you even got to the final chorus.

Lyrically, Tanya turned to her imagination when she’d hit a dry spot when looking for material. “I wasn’t feeling inspired by my own life, and didn’t feel any urge to become self-destructive like I had in younger years to create,” Tanya explains. “I remembered how much I loved to write stories as a child, and thought I’d start writing fictional stories into songs, and creating the music to set the vibe and world around it.”

You can catch BATTS touring this November in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney (dates below) and stay tuned for more news about your/our new favourite artist.
