Considering it features members from two of Sydney’s favourite punk/grunge acts – Zeahorse and White Dog – you’d be a little rattled if the calibre of music produced by Pleasure Chest wasn’t extremely high, or if it wasn’t super heavy. Well, relax you psycho. We can now confirm that their standards haven’t waned one little bit, with today’s release of their Denim Dragon / Incommunicado 7-inch.
Kicking of with the bass-driven ‘Denim Dragon’, the group suck you in with melancholic vocals and a seemingly unstoppable beat, as delay-drenched guitars rain down you. On the flip side, ‘Incommunicado’ feels like it came from the mind Joy Division’s evil twin – it’s a little bit more creepy than Ian Curtis and co, but still full of hooks and backed by a solid groove.
Like what you’re hearing? You can purchase one of 150 7-inch vinyls from their bandcamp, and stay tuned for news on an East Coast tour.
