In something of a departure from their blues-boned rock offerings – 2015’s The Express and 2018’s Love Passion Satisfaction – Brisbane four-piece Port Royal have today unleashed a sunny jingle ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’. It’s a shift that’s resulted in one of the catchiest bloody tunes that we’ve heard in a long, long time.
Complete with horns and some ultra smooth nylon-string acoustic work, the track is a masterfully crafted piece of indie-rock. Singer Lawson Doyle’s inescapably hooky vocals shine through to take centre stage, to the extent that you’ll be singing this one in the shower next week and not even notice – yes, it’s that automatically addictive.
“The lead chorus line ‘Don’t You, Don’t You Forget About Me’ isn’t a cry for help but rather a reminder to someone that you can be counted on if they need it,” Doyle says of the song. “The last line of the pre-chorus ‘cause you know, it’s not as hard as it seems’ is saying, whatever problem you may have, we can tackle it together.”
Port Royal will also be hitting the road for a huge tour (and by huge we mean ginormous) over February, March, April, and May, which include a show with USA’s Supersucker. Check out the poster below and head here for more details.
