Spike swaps his band for an acoustic guitar in a stripped-back version of ‘Lisp.’

Having released his debut self-titled tape earlier this year, Spike Vincent has been busy carving out a reputation as one of the most promising talents of the local indie scene. Delivering solemn and honest lyrics backed up by his raw and gutsy band, Spike has packed out venues in Sydney and Melbourne with hungry punters/proud custodians of the mullet haircut.

This acoustic version of his song ‘Lisp’ was filmed in two locations – Spike’s former and current homes – which he says fits the underlying sentiments of the track. “Some of the lyrics in ‘Lisp’ allude to the passage of time, but also to how the trauma of the past can haunt the subconscious landscape,” he says. “When we shot the video I was thinking about all those memories, beautiful and terrifying, letting them wash over me and away (hopefully).”

“Place and history was crucial to the navigation of these feelings and images, so I think the video is important to me in that regard, that we shot in these two locations during my transition period between old and new experiences,” Spike says.

Spike’s version of ‘Lisp’ is the first installment of brand new web series called Open House, which allows fans to experience songs in their most naked incarnation in an attempt to give listeners a revealing look at the artist. “There are tons of great Australian bands that are so good live, I wanted to see them play in a more intimate setting and also get people to experience a non studio version of songs they may already know,” says series creator Kurt Davies.
