Having trouble waking up on this Friday morning? Sydney’s own Raj Mahal is here to help with his vicious new offering of ‘Cake.’

Savour The Rations are one of the most exciting crews to be coming out of Sydney at the moment, consisting of young rappers, producers and artists with a distinct DIY streak and disregard for sonic rules. Their live shows have earned a cult fanbase across our city, causing absolute mayhem with takeovers of The World Bar, The Lord Gladstone and Oxford Art Factory. One man who’s commanded the microphone at those shows is the clique’s own Raj Mahal.

Raj Mahal’s abrasive approach to rap just might be made for club dancefloors, and ‘Cake’ continues his mission with adrenaline-fuelled, sweat-drenched results. Featuring pounding production from his Rations colleague Domba, Raj Mahal barks his way through the thick buzz of synths, with ‘Cake’ standing somewhere between rap and brooding electronica, all drenched with a punk aesthetic that prioritises lo-fi chaos.

‘Cake’ is just a small taste of his upcoming Neva Safe EP, which will be released next week on November 11. Raj Mahal will be giving the release a live preview at Bodega Collective’s Block Party on November 10, performing alongside Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Main St, Jhassic, Mozaick Records and more at a secret Newtown location. It’s also BYO, so stock up on those longnecks and grab your tickets right here.

In the meantime, Raj Mahal is sure to keep the heart racing with ‘Cake,’ so keep it on repeat until you get to witness it live next week:
