Fresh off the release of his latest single ‘Rih’ just two weeks ago, Atlanta-based rapper Kenny Mason has today blessed fans with the follow-up album, Angelic Hoodrat: Supercut. An accelerated and sharpened version of his 2020 debut, Kenny’s second album in as many years boasts standout teasers like ‘Partments’ and ‘Play Ball’, and these genre-bending tracks perfectly reflect the sonic quality of his sophomore LP. Over 12 tracks, the 26 year-old upstart tries his hand at diverse sounds from 90’s rock to grungy metal, all while retaining the signature acrobatic lyricism that first shot him into the mainstream.
On album highlight ‘Pup,’ Kenny spits syllabic rhymes on a bouncy trap beat before an interlude makes way for Nirvana-like instrumentals. The accompanying video casts Kenny in night vision as he spits bars in visually-distorted locales. The track is just one example of the rapper/singer/rocker’s defiance of the pigeonhole, and the surrounding album serves as a much-needed showcase of this sonic diversity. Watch Kenny Mason defy the sophomore slump in the video below, and go check out his recent drop ANGELIC HOODRAT: SUPERCUT, out today.
