The Zambian-born, Botswana-raised, and now Melbourne-based artist has delivered her first taste of new music since 2017’s Birds And The BEE9.

Fans of Sampa The Great rejoice. The Afro-infused dance artist has returned today with a brand new clip for what may her best work to date, ‘Energy’. The track, which features spoken word by Nadeem Din Gabisi, incorporates breathy vocal harmonies and smooth rapping over a groovy R&B beat, and preaches a message of empowerment and acknowledgement of the aura of femininity.

The video, which was directed by Modu Sesay, further explores the notions of power and gender with Sampa taking centre stage as an alluring yet strong character. A shot of her in white, whilst a room of people in brown clothes sway side to side around her, is easily the most aesthetically pleasing moment of what is undoubtedly a carefully constructed and artful clip.

“…We need to constantly replenish both the masculine and feminine aspects of our energy. This song and visual symbolises finding this balance, thanking those who have supported this journey so far and bridging the gap between BBEE9 and the new music to come in 2019,” Sampa says.
