Jónsi and his bandmates will make an Aussie pit-stop during their long-awaited world tour.

It’s been a busy start to the year for Icelandic band Sigur Rós. In February, the rock trio announced an end to their nine-year hiatus and the promise of new upcoming music, with former keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson later revealing that he would rejoin the band after an almost decade-long absence.

Proof that the good news keeps on coming,  Sigur Rós have today announced that they’ve expanded their upcoming world tour to include a string of shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The tour, which marks the band’s first Australian appearance in five years, will take over venues from Margaret Court Arena to Aware Super Theatre, and will bring with it a stack of new releases alongside material from their 25-year discography.

Sigur Rós haven’t released a studio album since 2013’s Kveikur, but their tour announcement no-doubt precedes what will be their eighth, currently-in-the-making LP. Taking to the stage in mid-August, Sigur Rós will first appear in Brisbane before concluding the Australian leg of their tour in Melbourne.

Tickets to Sigur Rós’ world tour go on sale to the general public at 1pm on Monday, April 4, and are available here. Elsewhere, presale tickets go live this Friday (April 1), on Secret Sounds website. from 9am. Scroll down for more ticketing and event info, and keep an eye out for when Sigur Rós hit Aussie shores this August.
