Steve Harwell, the former frontman of the iconic American rock band Smash Mouth, is currently in critical condition, according to reports from various US media outlets. Harwell’s manager, Robert Hayes, disclosed to the tabloid news site TMZ that Harwell is in the final stages of liver failure, a condition he had been receiving medical care for in the hospital until recently.

Hayes further explained that Harwell is now surrounded by family and friends, receiving care and support at home, including hospice care. He also emphasised the importance of respecting the privacy of Steve Harwell and his family during this challenging time.

Liver failure, especially acute liver failure, is a serious medical emergency that can lead to severe complications and necessitates immediate hospitalisation. In some cases, the only viable treatment is a liver transplant. Chronic liver failure, on the other hand, progresses at a slower rate but can also be life-threatening without proper medical intervention.

Steve Harwell is 56 years old and has been a prominent figure in the music industry for many years. However, troubling footage from a 2019 live performance in Syracuse, New York, raised concerns about his health. In 2021, Harwell announced his retirement, citing health issues and struggles with substance abuse as contributing factors to his declining condition.

Smash Mouth, the band Harwell fronted, is renowned for hits like ‘Walkin’ on the Sun’ and ‘All Star’. The latter song gained renewed popularity when it was featured on the 2001 “Shrek” soundtrack, along with their cover of The Monkees’ ‘I’m a Believer’.

Smash Mouth is currently on tour in the United States with their new frontman, Zach Goode, as they continue to entertain their dedicated fan base.
