Leave it to Snoopie to befriend someone dubbed “Royal High-ness”…

Snoop Dogg has recalled the time that Queen Elizabeth stopped him from being thrown out of the UK, discussing the pair’s unlikely friendship in a recent interview with DJ Whoo Kid. The rapper, who was touring England in the 90’s, explained the UK public’s reception to his arrival following a 1994 murder charge in which he was arrested as a prime suspect.

Speaking of the incident, Snoop recalled a cover story in the Daily Star which featured his face below the headline “Kick This Evil Bastard Out!”. Calls for Snoop to be returned home were growing, but the rapper said one fan of royal proportions came to his defence: “The Queen,” Snoop recalled.

“The queen said, ‘This man has done nothing in our country. He can come.” After name dropping the monarch, Snoop went on to explain how it was her grandchildren’s interest in his music that saved him from being deported, claiming that Prince Harry and William were “saying ‘grandma, please let him in, grandma. He’s OK. We love his music.’”

The charges against Snoop were later dropped in 1997, but he claims to still be friendly with the royal, lovingly calling her “my gal.” While Snoop’s friendship with someone dubbed “Highness” makes sense (the rapper recently launched a cereal brand that looks like the ultimate wake and bake munchie snack) , we’re not so sure that ol’ Lizzy is blasting ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ between royal appointments.

Elsewhere in Snoopland, the rapper earlier this month starred alongside Jamie Foxx in Netflix’s horror-comedy film, Day Shift. The movie adds to Snoop’s increasingly lengthy filmography, having recently announced that he’ll produce and star in The Underdoggs, an upcoming comedy about his experiences as a youth football coach.
