Sticky Fingers broke early attendance records for Splendour In The Grass when they pulled 20,000 people back in 2014, and they put on another kick-ass show at the Ampitheatre last week in Byron Bay.
While we’re still recovering from that manic set, here comes an avalanche news from the Stickies camp: New album and a new national tour to boot. The band will be releasing their third full-length titled Westway (The Glitter & The Slums) on September 30, which features previously releasing singles ‘Outcast At Last’ and ‘Our Town’. Curiously enough, there’s also a collaboration with emcee Remi named ‘Something Strange’ which we can’t wait to get into our earholes. The record arrives with some lush cover art featuring the band in stained glass window form, which is a real thing that actually exists at The Lord Gladstone hotel in Chippendale. Go see it IRL and order a fried chicken burger while you’re at it.
The album was recorded over four weeks in Thailand, with Freddy Crabs saying that “Westway is lyrically darker than both previous albums. It deals with rehab, break ups and loneliness, mixed with the transient nature of constantly being on the road and what that does to our bodies and our heads. The sound is more mature, heavier hitting but we still keep the sticky flavours in the pot to keep it all together. Expect stronger musicianship, bigger and better solos, fucked up synths and high falsettos. Expect a collab from one of Australia’s most important new artists. Expect to laugh, cry and gets the tingle like you’ve never felt before. Westway is gonna be the best, it’s special album and a moving story that I’ll keep close to my heart for ever.”
Just a month after the release of the album, Sticky Fingers will be hitting the road for a national tour – kicking off with a hometown show in Sydney’s Inner-West before wrapping up in Adelaide. Given that the band have sold out every tour in recent memory, we’d be inclined to say that this one will do the same.
