Alongside dozens of venues across neighbouring Oxford Street and Kings Cross, it was forced to close after being stripped of late-night trade, and Darlinghurst residents didn’t take the news lightly. The Flinders was one of the better watering holes in the area, and has even hosted Sydney breakout stars like Alison Wonderland on the decks.
Over two years later, The Flinders is relaunching once more this weekend, looking to revert the venue back to its glory days. A spokesperson for the venue said “we want to build on what made the Flinders a go-to spot in it heyday, with a few aesthetic tweaks. It’s always been a cool dive-pub with rad music and drink offerings, so we’ve added to that and brought in a some new flavour.”
The decorations we’ve seen have been rustic and colourful, with ‘Keep Sydney Open’ graffiti sprawled defiantly on the wall in commemoration of the resurrection. “Fuck the lockouts. We’re excited to breathe life back into a Sydney favourite. This city needs and deserves it,” they continued.
The launch party will be taking place this Saturday, May 13 from 8:00pm – with Chux (Heaps Decent) and Ariane (Rhythm Of The Night) among the selectors soundtracking the evening. It’s stretching all the way until 3:00am, so head on down and welcome back The Flinders. Event details here.
