The track features local songstress Milan Ring, along with Matt McWaters and Philadelphia legend, Questlove…

Perth-born artist, Ta-ku, has once again proven he’s annoyingly talented, this time with his latest single, ‘WAY OUT.’ And no, it’s not a song about finding the exit when you’re trying to smoke bomb at a party (guilty), instead, Ta-ku teams up with Milan Ring, Matt McWaters, and the one and only ?uestlove to deliver a soulful R&B bop.

Conceptualised by friend and co-executive producer, Matt McWaters, the new single from the Aussie music veteran is an easy-going groove that begins with a classy piano line, before various strings and harmonies make their way in, with Ta-Ku singing the chorus line “I’m looking for a way out” with equal measures of steeze and soul. Milan Ring then comes in on the verse, hitting with plenty of sultriness as she vocalises in her signature blend of spoken word and singing. She also treats us to some vocal acrobatics on the track as she alternates between chest and head voice, all before Ta-Ku, Matt McWaters and the OG, Questlove, bring it all together on the hook with an assortment of instrumental and percussive layers.

It’s a tantalising offering from the all-star crew, and it looks like there’s plenty more on the way, with the record being the second taste of Ta-Ku’s upcoming LP, Songs To Come Home To. Acting as the concluding chapter in Taku’s Songs To trilogy, which began in 2013 with Songs To Break Up To and continued on in 2015 with Songs To Make Up To, the project is a culmination of Ta-ku’s artistic growth of the past decade, bringing together everything from hip hop, dance, R&B and soul for 20 original tunes.

Definitely a big moment for the homegrown musical powerhouse. Ta-Ku’s new single ‘Way Out’ is out now. Be sure to buy/stream it here and pre-order Songs To Come Home To here.
