Another attractive extra-cirricular activity is the festival’s arts program, which give your eyeballs something to gaze at while your earholes are being treated by The XX, Stormzy, LCD Soundsystem and the god himself, Lil Yachty. SITG have just announced the roster of artists who will be transforming North Byron Parklands into a fantasy land, and yes, this year will host an inflatable, 10 metre tall recreation of Kanye West’s face.
Barcelona-based arts group Hungry Castle – who were responsible for the cute inflatable turd that blessed Splendour 2016 – will be back with a gigantic ‘Sad Kanye’ instillation. Kanye West is a man of many emotions, and he usually displays all 73 of them within one of his 10 minute speeches, but sadness has definitely fuelled some of his best music. Remember 808s & Heartbreak? A lot of people think that record stinks, but we beg to differ. Anyway, prepare to meet a large-scale Kanye West when he blesses the main entrance of Splendour for the entire festival.
Other art projects include a ‘House of Horror audience walk through’ by Andy Forbes, and a maze at the Mix-Upstage by Takin, Nick Asides & Rose Staff. Explore the full arts line-up right here, and count down the days until July 21.
