Anyone else wanting a whole album from these two?

In what’s sure to be one of the most desired collabs of the past decade, Los Angeles singer and multi-instrumentalist Thundercat has joined forces with Australia’s prodigal son, Tame Impala, for his first new single in three years. Titled ‘No More Lies’, the new offering from the two revered artists is everything you could hope for, with the pair meshing their respective affinities for funk and psychedelia for a smooth as silk meditation on failed relationships and heartache.

Despite the pertinent nature of the song’s lyrics, however, the production of the mid-tempo bop is by far its biggest strength, with the pair curating a vibrant blend of Thundercat’s smooth vocals and Parker’s dreamy instrumental layers (along with some airy vocals of his own). Ranging from retro synths to a clattery drum line and a groove-filled bassline, Parker reaches into his Slow Rush bag as he straddles the line between pop and psychedelia with ease.

Accompanying the single is a very appropriate music video that follows a cheetah and deer running through the wildness, in what’s almost a visual manifestation of the two artists and their respective musical footprints.

Speaking on the inevitable collab, Thundercat explains his excitement at working with the ‘Disciples’ singer, explaining, “I’ve wanted to work with Kevin since the very first Tame Impala album. I feel that I knew that us working together would be special. I’ve been excited about this song for a long time and hope to create more with Kevin in the future.”

Definitely a pairing that’s been desired by both Thundercat and Tame Impala’s respective fanbases for years now, and thankfully, it looks like it was well worth the wait. Check out the full official visualiser for ‘No More Lies’ above.
