For anyone who spent their childhood perfecting kickflips and ollies in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, here’s some bonkers news that’ll make your week. Firstly, the game is turning 25 next year (where did all the time go!?). Secondly, the legendary skater himself has just announced his arrival in Brisbane, of all places, to celebrate 25 years of this iconic video game.
Let’s be real, Pro Skater holds a special spot in the hearts of any ’90s or 2000s kid. It quickly gained a global following for bringing skateboarding into the limelight and allowing us to feel like the biggest skater in the world, all from the comfort of our own home, usually with a box of pizza, a couple of school makes and all the time in the world (take me back!).
So, it’s pretty wild that the man behind it all has decided to come Down Under to celebrate (not that we’re complaining). Scheduled for January 27th next year, Tony will be dropping into Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall to provide a fully immersive real-life experience of the game. Ticket holders will not only witness a live skateboarding demo by the man himself (on an 11-foot vertical ramp, no less), but he will also recreate one of the game’s most iconic levels in the esteemed Brisbane venue.
Joining him is the esteemed Birdhouse skate crew, featuring world-class female ramp skater Lizzie Armanto, 5-time X Games medalist Elliot Sloan, 9-year-old prodigy Reese Nelson, and Brazilian-born pro skater (and double amputee!) Felipe Nunes.
Of course, one of the most iconic parts of Pro Skater was the music, however, with tracks from the likes of Rage Against the Machine, Goldfingr and more, providing the soundtrack to many virtual skateboarding seshs. Thankfully, there are a lot of tunes on offer at the Brissy event, with the original artists from the Pro Skater soundtracks like Bodyjar, providing the musical backdrop for the skate sessions, along with DZ Deathrays and Alex Lahey.

It wouldn’t be a proper celebration of Pro Skater, however, without the chance to play the game in all its glory, with a bunch of game consoles loaded with the title for anyone who wants to relive one of the greatest games of the 2000s.
