If you told 20-year-old me who was squeezed at the very front of a ridiculously drunk Greenwood Thursdays that the DJ on stage, ODD MOB, would go on to play Coachella in four year’s time, I would’ve totally believed you. For almost a decade the international export has been serving up heater after heater, cultivating a wide plethora of hits crafted and refined for the club. It’s taken him to stages all across the world and earned him nods from the likes of DJ Boring, Salute, Chris Lake and more, and has cemented him as one of Australia’s most promising dance exports. Understandably so, it seems Coachella (and its punters) agreed with us, filling up the hallowed Do Lab stage for our homegrown hero just the other week
It’s quite a high to come off, and to top things off, he’s recently released his latest single ‘Been Dreaming’, all the while debuting his new alter ego, GD Vandal.
Made up of soulful vocal loops, four to the four drum lines and intricate bits of electro ornamentation spread throughout, the soundscape is reminiscent of the hard and fast energy synonymous with ’90s house. An addictive sonic tapestry that becomes catchier with each repetition, day ones and newcomers to the ODD MOB fandom alike will be able to get around this beauty in its entirety.
To celebrate the new single, we tagged along with ODD MOB to capture his Coachella debut, the journey beforehand and his inevitable return home. Check it below.
