The Sydney outfit have just dropped another psych-pop gem.

What’s Velvet Trip’s new track ‘Silly Boy’ about? A political statement? Metaphoric commentary on the power dynamic of the world? A moment of scathing inflection? All of the above? None of the above? Stop your guessing. As frontman Zeppelin Hamilton explains, it’s mostly about himself…

“Silly Boy is a tongue-in-cheek jab at viral skits, social media, and 15 minutes of fame,” he says. “I used to make viral internet videos until things got a little out of hand. It took hitchhiking around Australia, a crocodile farm in Darwin, and breaking my foot in Indonesia to call it quits on that part of my life. Fake it till ya make it baby!”

The tune itself is a funky-ass number with Hamilton’s ethereal falsetto soaring over some tidy guitars and near-sensual bass. Plus it comes with the news that their debut LP Harmony Blooms will be hitting airwaves on November third this year. The LP which will feature ‘Silly Boy’ along with previous singles ‘Moving On’ (which hit #1 on the Amrap Metro charts), and ‘It’s Only Human’, was a matter of trial and error for Hamilton:

“In my head, making an album was going to be an easy task – write some songs, record them and buda bim bada boom… Glastonbury haha,” he says” “After a pandemic, breakups, band members leaving, broken bones, health scares, 3 AM remote mixing sessions and spending all my money onmicrophones whilst learning how to use logic… I guess it wasn’t that easy. For it to be finished and ready is already a big achievement for us in itself and we are very proud. This album represents growth, exploration of identity, heartbreak, friendship, resilience, and a lot of love.”
