Prepare to get your groove on and be electrified with the spirit, the ravenous fire that burns brighter than the hottest of suns and pulls you in harder than the strongest of gravitational pulls. Needless to say, just fucking brace yourselves folks, as Sydney rising stars Beso Palma and Rissa are dancing in, out and around your hearts with lovely breeze, steeze and the unequivocal, radiant power of belief in the visuals for their latest tune ‘Ego,’ out now.
The tune sees the producer-extraordinaire and R&B flower link up for a buzzing Kaytranada-like bop (sold), the luminescent sonics and and solar bass lines of Beso complimenting RISSA’s Badu-reminiscent vocals like butter (again, SOLD). And although their methods of musical expression may differ, their love of the craft shine through with the same purity, emanating a connectedness that transcends influence, upbringing, and whatever else us humans use to define ourselves. The two are one on the track, and it comes through in spades.
The video (which we’re premiering today) follows RISSA as she dances with smoky poise through the bustling streets of Sydney, moving with a riveting mix of focus, spontaneity and badassery; proving to you that she was indeed born for this, and you were born to watch her. Backed by the lovely ELISHIA and Rachell Dade, the trio pop, lock, twirl and just totally lose themselves to the rhythm as they make their way though the cityscape, overlooking structures and installations swaying and swooning as the beauties bless them with their moves.
Director Maya Gardiner Mullins and cinematographer Maya Luana go absolutely ham here as well, filming the talents with total fluidity as they capture every spark and nuance that makes RISSA and her band of dancers so damn special. Every shot, cut and transition feels totally organic and inspired, and most importantly, plays like a bunch of creatives fully in their element. It’s all wonderfully showcased when RISSA dances her way to the most bumping house party, with maestro Beso rocking the decks as they pair throw down with some of the most promising artists the Sydney music scene has to offer; everyone leaving their souls on the dance floor in a fiery union of groove and thrill.
Speaking on the video, Beso explains “I knew the day after we wrote the track that I wanted to incorporate some sort of choreographed dance in the music video. After seeing a few videos of Rissa performing live, I proposed the idea and she was immediately onboard. Her effortlessness and attitude on camera surpassed all my expectations and was exactly how I envisioned the visuals for ‘Ego’: empowering, energetic and sass-fuelled.”
