Time to reflect.

Indie-pop duo Broads deliver the track that will make you switch your phone right off.

With their ‘Mirror’ single having dropped earlier in the month, we knew it would only be a short wait before Broads released an accompanying video to addictively dreamy tune. Dropping today, like an iPhone to the hard footpath, is their raw and fittingly introspective clip, that sees the two further explore society’s fixation with social media and gratification.

Influenced by the Sylvia Plath poem of the same name, the lyrics look at our relationship with our ‘smart’ devices. “These days, we carry our mirrors with us all the time, unable to escape our own reflections on Instagram and the like,” singer Kelly Day says. “When I wrote the song I thought, ‘What kind of personality would someone’s phone have?’ It would be a syrupy, false friend who would always try to convince you that they were your one true ally.”

Shot, directed and edited by the duo, the clip is made up of the all too familiar shots that we see slapped around the internet these days, evolving into a collage of pouts, smiles, and winks that peak as the track gets absorbed by a wall of distortion. It’s evidence that all you need is a great idea and a catchy track – and a couple of looks – to make an interesting and cool video.
