The Sydney singer-songwriter teams up with producer Xavier Dunn for an alternative take on her recently-released track.

With her tune ‘Saving Bugs’ having dropped less than a fortnight ago and already racking up some impressive streaming numbers, Chase Zera has today shared a bare-bones version of the track that is hitting very hard. Dropping the shiny production and big beat in favour of a verbed out guitar and sampler, we get a taste for the subtleties of the track – the kinds of things that are often within big studio mix.

Here, Chase’s vocals take centre stage, swooning us with that R&B bounce retained from the recorded version of the track, whilst also bringing a fresh soulful touch to the tune. According to the bubbly artist, this version was actually how the song was written before Xavier elevated it with all the trimmings you’d associate with a smooth pop banger..

“I thought it would be nice to pull back all the production and give people a taste of how the song sounded in those first few months before we finished it – really raw, intimate and vocal focused. It was really special to perform this with Xavier in his studio where so much of my music is brought to life.”

It makes you wonder about the kind of work we’d be hearing from Chase in a parallel stripped-back universe, where there’s no such thing as multi-layered digital recording… or maybe this is just our way of saying please do an acoustic record… Head here to buy/stream the tune right now:
