It’s looking like Vol. 3 is going to be their grungiest work yet.

It’s always been hard to pinpoint the “sound” of Melbourne alt-rockers All The Colours. Their debut self-titled album and sophomore LP, Vol. 2, each contain elements of swaggering blues, indie rock, and acoustic country – yet they still feel like connected bodies of work. From what we’ve heard (so far) from their aptly titled third record, Vol. 3, the group are heading down a darker, heavier road, and the video for their new single ‘Tear It Down’ reflects that masterfully.

Echoing the classic 90’s loud-soft-loud structure made famous by Nirvana (who borrowed it from the Pixies), the group sway between melancholic verses and headbanging choruses with ease. Lines like “Tie the noose around your neck / I don’t believe we’re coming back” and “No more tomorrows, we beg and borrow / Until there’s nothing left” paint mankind in a pretty grim light, which is matched by the epic collage of visuals in the clip.

“We are very happy with how the video came out, we wanted something to give the song the emotional weight it deserves and it’s right on the money,” singer/bass player Josh Moriarty says. “It’s hard to marry music and images together so the idea was to just compile footage that matched the lyrics, Zach (McSweeney, director) hit the brief and grabbed a bunch of different footage from over the last 100 years right up until today so you can see the scope of what we are as human beings on this planet, the good and the bad.”

Like what you’re hearing? All The Colours will be hitting the road over the next couple of months in support of ‘Tear It Down’ (dates below, FB events here) and we guarantee you won’t want to miss them in their heaviest incarnation.
