Blacktown rapper Elijah Yo is back with another one, this time representing his home turf with ‘West Coast Party.’

Having wowed us with his solemn single ‘Missed Calls‘ last month, Elijah Yo shoots in the opposite direction with his upbeat celebration, ‘West Coast Party (Remix).’ On the surface, it’s a bombastic single that pays homage to Sydney’s Western suburbs, the breeding ground for most of the city’s burgeoning underground rappers. However, Elijah says that there’s more purpose as to why he chose to write the song, which also features frequent collaborators Biggs, Enzo and Pistol Pete.

“Everyone’s seen the violence, everyone’s heard the stories about us, but no one talks about the unity and love that West Sydney has. I wanted to bring that to the forefront… to show a different side to West Sydney” he says of the track.

Centred around an updated delivery of the oft-quoted hook from Coolio’s ‘1, 2, 3, 4,’ the track sees four emcees deliver their own version of hometown pride over a bopping beat that samples George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic’s single ‘(Not Just) Knee Deep.’ If you’re from West Sydney, you’ll probably resonate with this track; and if not, this might be enough encouragement for you to head on down and engage with the culture.

All artists on ‘West Coast Party (Remix)’ will be performing later this month at Oxford Art Factory, so expect a live rendition. You can grab tickets to the show right here:
