Salarymen continue their hot streak with yet another melodically lush pop-rock invitation into their vintage-inspired world.

With their singles ‘Please’ and ‘That Man’ establishing their swooning 60s style, Sydney duo Thom Eagleton and Renée de la Motte AKA Salarymen have today shared a track that proves their talent ain’t no fluke. ‘Runaway’ is a bouncy duet that celebrates that same dreamy escapism we get every time we’re listening to these two and find ourselves climbing on board the Salarymen magic carpet.

The track sees Renée and Thom swapping vocal duties throughout with upbeat keys and shimmering guitars providing the harmonic backing. It’s the kind of track that’ll have you doing the twist in the morning and singing in the shower in the afternoon (or whenever you shower). “At its heart, Runaway is our take on a cheesy love song,” Thom says. “The world is going through some scary times at the moment, and this year has been very overwhelming – this song is about desperately wanting to be free of that.”

Expanding their sound was something they were conscious of during the recording process. “From a production perspective, we also really challenged ourselves to explore new territory for this track, and bought some new analogue synths especially for it,” Renée says. “At one point, we had so many individual instrumental tracks in the file, that Thom’s computer shut down – so I think we achieved our goal.”

Directed by Todd Stephen Logan, the video nicely encapsulates the “runaway” notion, with the two leaving the city in their dust as they take to the coast and explore the natural world. They also employ black and white studio shots that hark back to the mid 20th century, reinforcing that vintage feel perfectly.
